Valentino Rossi has unveiled a one-off helmet design for the Mugello round of MotoGP. Featuring a graphic of his startled face on the top of the helmet, Rossi said he hoped it would convey the feeling of braking into Turn One at Mugello from 320km/h.
The design was credited to Aldo Drudi, the noted Italian designer responsible for the AGV helmet designs. Drudi was the designer behind the gorgeous "*Macchia Nera" titanium framed NCR Ducati concept bike from a few years ago. Drudi's swish but heavily flash laden website is drudiperformance.com Check out the section under "Staff" showing the hand painting process of the race rep design prototypes.

Heres a different take on a pit bike build up. Not content with the usual bolt on 50cc parts available for Hondas evergreen Z50 "Monkeybike", this fellow has managed to make a 125cc 4 cyl engine for his bike.
Very clever, but Im thinking a CBR600RR motor swap would be easier.

210 HORSEPOWER!?
Only days away from the release of the new Yamaha V-Max, leaked information suggests the bike is an downdraught fuel injected, 1800cc V4 ,pumping out 210 horsepower.
If correct, these rumours mean it will be a serious contender for the fastest accelerating production bike on the planet with its huge horsepower and long wheelbase. Certainly it will be the fastest shaft driven machine.

This weekend presents a feast of motorcycle racing for followers of two wheel action.
Mugello Italy will host the 6th Round of the MotoGP championship, with Valentino Rossi looking to make it a record breaking 7 wins in a row at his "home" track. Honda will be trialing a pnuematic valved engine at this round, with veteran racer Tadayuki Okada entered as a wild card. Aussie Casey Stoner's book of records at Mugello is a thin one, he will be looking to change that. Pedrosa, Lorenzo and even a resurgent Colin Edwards could factor in the results.
Over the Atlantic, the World Superbike Championship breaks new ground in the USA with the frst ever running at the Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.
As usual, Aussie race fans will be expecting Troy Bayliss for a double win. Combined with the World Supers, the AMA Superbike series will run alongside this weekend, presumably another Spies v Mladin affair in a 2 race format.
Back in Australia, Winton will host the 3rd round of the Australian Superbike Championship. With only 11 points seperating the top 5 runners in the championship, this weekends results are likely to see that order change. And over in Perth, the sandy Wanneroo Motocross track will host the Rockstar Energy MX Nationals, as that series reaches its halfway point.
Shane 'Shakey' Byrne has won both races in the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship round at Donington Park on his Airwaves Ducati. Byrne held out HM Plant Honda riders Leon Haslam, and Cal Crutchlow in the first race. The second race podium was identical, this time Byrne snatching the win from Haslam with a pass two laps from the finish.
Byrne leads the British Superbike Championship by a healthy 68 points over Crutchlow, with his Airwaves Ducati team mate Leon Camier in third position on the points table.

Both Yamaha Europe and the Yamaha USA "Star" Cruiser website are running a countdown banner to an unspecified event on June 4th 2008. The sound bite on the banner would appear to be the familiar V-4 roar of the V-Max. Perhaps after years of waiting, the legion of V-Max, and indeed V-4 lovers, will finally see the unveiling of a production version of the concept "new" V-Max that has done the show rounds in recent years.
Rumours persist that the shaft drive, cruiser/street dragster will sport a B-King beating amount of power. Other possibilities have included variable valve timing, and over 200hp.

We've all seen old bikes as "almost new, right? Well this beauty is. Advertised on Ebay USA as having 927 original miles, in perfect unrestored condition, its enough to make a 40-something Kawasaki fan weep tears of green. Or in this case sliver blue metallic.Included is the original set of keys, tool kit, owners booklet and warranty certificate. Z1-R on Ebay US I want!
Could happen. In a proposal presented to the Grand Prix Commission,Dorna Sports CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta has proposed a 4 stroke class, beginning in 2011, which would end the 250cc 2 stroke class at the conclusion of the 2010 series.
" `We want the class to be competitive, cheaper and a prototype series. We already had some manufacturers announce that they would not be continuing to make two stroke machines, because of the production cost and the fact that they were not interested in making that kind of street bike." he said.
