Dramatic 3rd for Chad Reed
Dramatic St Louis race sees Reed finish third
5th March 2007
In what is being described as one of the most intense and dramatic
nights of Supercross racing in the history of the sport, Australian Chad Reed
has recovered from an opening lap incident at Round 9 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA
Supercross Series at the Edward Jones Dome in St Louis to keep his podium record
in tact.
The L&M/San Manuel/Yamaha rider and his on-track rival James
Stewart brought the crowd of over 50.000 to their feet as their battle for the
2007 Championship crown turned explosive. For the third consecutive round
Chad Reed grabbed the Progressive Direct Holeshot but before the end of the
opening lap he was passed by the championship leader who made a block pass to
steal the lead.
The Australian responded by shooting to the apex of the
corner and considerable contact was made. Both riders were knocked to the ground
and by the time Reed had re-mounted his Yamaha YZ450F he was well back in eighth
place. By lap 7 of the 20 lap race the Yamaha rider had worked his way back
to second place but by lap 12 of the race the battle between he, and Stewart for
position resumed.
Reed finished in third place and said that despite being a
little off the pace tonight he was done with being a pushover.“Block passing
is part of the game but it is starting to get a little bit ridiculous,” Reed
said. “Every week I’m getting pushed around, its racing but he thinks he can
walk all over me and I’m gonna put an end to that.”"Every time he passes me
he has to bump me – tonight I bumped back.""I was slightly off the pace, I
was struggling and too be honest I struggled all the way from practice so I am
still pumped to be on the podium tonight,” Reed commented.
Reed will next
compete at Round 10 of the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross Series which will be held
at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida on Friday 9th
March.
