2011 Honda CBR250R

Honda have unveiled the 2011 CBR250R, a sporty lightweight single. Design-wise, the CBR250R shows a clear influence from its big sister - the VFR1200.

Powertrain-wise, not so much, the little CBR250R is powered by a single cylinder 249cc fuel injected 4 valver. Still, with only 160kgs to push, and 26 horsepower, the little Honda will be both an ideal entry level machine, and a fun ride.

Honda would be hoping to claw a few sales of Kawasaki's Ninja 250R -Australia's top selling road bike if you discount the CT110 - which sports similar weight and horsepower figures, albiet from a twin cylinder engine. The CBR250R will be manufactured in Honda's Thailand plant, and sold worldwide.

Honda's US press release aims the bike at new riders: "The CBR250R is specifically aimed at new riders, yet it's packed full of high-tech features and offers great performance, all in a lightweight, affordable package. This new model expands another segment of the market for Honda buyers."

According to early press releases, the 2011 CBR250R will be made in both ABS and non ABS models, in 3 different colour schemes, Black, Red and Silver like the VFR1200, and a traditional tri-colour red/white.blue scheme. Just exactly what, and when, we get in Australia remains to be seen.

We will update shortly with those details, along with an expected retail price. It would certainly be a nice addition to the ranks of the LAMS legal bikes.

not having ridden this bike or the yzf r15 my
feeling is little yammy would be more fun to ride.
both bikes are close in the power to weight no:s
with the yam ahead in torque to cc but as is most often it has more to do with appearance, feel when sat on the bike, the test ride & for me the old bang
for the bucks & @3990rrp it's yzf for me, sure i would like the honda but at nearly double the cost,
my wallet wont open that far.

now having ridden the yzf r15 i can say it is a great little bike, whatever your pleasure,to work & back,a blast up the mountain onto the tablelands or cruising on the freeway at a comfortable 120kmh,though in gusty conds. 100-110kays due to it's light weight & skinny tyres, also looks as though Honda will struggle to bring bike under 10K

im about to buy this bike and i think it is great good acceleration up to 110kmh after that you may have to scooter it and rev hard to get to 130kmh but all in all its a great little commuter and with cbr250rr still reaching 5k after 20 years i think that 6k is great for a brand new novice bike
